How to know your files are safe
SugarSync seems to handle the resource-laden Mac files fine if they are.zipped (and obviously, one doesn't make 'incremental' versions of.zipped files - you save one, open it, trash it, and re-zip it. Also, SugarSync's pricing structure is reasonable, even for large data sets.
Cloud storage security is a key part of our service, and we ensure that every step of the syncing process keeps your files in safe hands. For your peace of mind, here’s a quick guide to knowing the status of your SugarSync files.
- Unlock the padlock on the bottom left and provide your Mac system password, if prompted. Click the + button to add SugarSync if it's not already on the list. Select the folders you to which you wish to give SugarSync access: Desktop; Documents; Downloads; You may get a message that says that changes won't take affect until the app is restarted.
- Download SugarSync File Manager for Mac to access, view, edit, save, transfer, back up, and sync files or folders across multiple devices in seconds. Desktop app shows a link to the status.
When you add files to SugarSync, you’ll see different icons representing the sync status of your synced files and folders. Let’s take a look at what they mean.

This folder is currently syncing or being uploaded:
This folder is being shared:
This folder is currently syncing or being uploaded and being shared:
If you’d prefer to turn off the icons, here’s how:
1. Launch the SugarSync desktop app.

3. Clear the check box to show file status icons.
The above icon is added to files or folders by Windows and is not a SugarSync icon. It indicates the permissions of the file or folder have been modified, which happens when you use SugarSync. The data still syncs properly, the file has not been locked.
If you’d like to remove the lock icons, you can allow SugarSync permissions on the folder level. You’ll find instructions through the Microsoft support site. After setting the folder’s File Sharing Permissions to Everyone, the locks should disappear.
